This applies to an unbound, unfinished rosewood (or similar) fretboard with nickel-silver fret wire. Other circumstances can increase that amount, as follows:
A finished fretboard usually means a clear-finish Fender-style maple fretboard. If the existing frets were installed before the finish was applied, each fret will need to be liberated from the finish. If this isn’t done properly, the existing finish will likely fracture, and require extra attention.
